Rent the Rock •
The Hunter Spirit Rock is available now for rental! For a suggested donation of $25, you can rent and paint a message of support for a Hunter student, teacher, staff member, or event!
When you rent the rock, you’ll select the school day you want your message to appear. Your rental actually starts at 4:30 PM the day before your reservation (so you have time to paint after carpool!) and runs until 4:29 PM on your reserved date. All reservations are rain or shine!
If a date isn’t listed as available, it’s already been reserved by the school to promote Hunter events.
Step One: Sign up to Rent the Rock here!
Step Two: Make your donation below. Our suggested donation is $25, but families are welcome to contribute more if they are able to.
Rules for the Rock:
Sign up for the day of school you want the Spirit Rock to be viewed. You can begin painting the rock at 4:30 PM the day before your reservation date, and your rental runs until 4:29 PM the day of your reservation.
If you want to Rent the Rock for your child's birthday on August 27th, you can start painting the rock at 4:30 PM on August 26th and you can expect your design to be painted over by someone new at 4:30 PM on August 27th.We suggest a $25 donation per day to Rent the Rock, though families are welcome to give more if they're able! All proceeds go directly to the Lucille Hunter Foundation. The Foundation is a volunteer-led non-profit that raises funds (separate from the PTA) that supports teaching positions and programs at Hunter Elementary.
You may sign up for multiple days throughout the year, but reservations cannot exceed 2 consecutive days. Sign ups lasting more than 2 consecutive days may be deleted and opened back up to the school community.
Payment is due at the time of making the reservation. All payments and reservations are non-refundable. However, if you decide you do not want your date, you can offer it to a friend or sell it to another family. We are not able to offer refunds on rock rentals.
Please only paint the front of the rock that faces the carpool line. For more tips on your rental, details on how to paint the rock, or recommendations for someone to paint it for you, please click here.
Please respect our school grounds and the environment. Do not paint the grass, curb, road, mulch, etc. All spirit rock decorations must meet the same standard we would expect of any school-sponsored sign, attire, events, etc.
All reservations are rain or shine!
Tips for Painting the Rock:
Please only paint the front of the rock facing carpool.
You can use stencils or sketch your design in chalk first to check sizing and legibility from a few feet away before you paint.
Spray paint is helpful for covering the rock and painting big sections. For smaller, more detailed areas, use acrylic paint (or spray paint with stencils). In case of rain, avoid paints like tempera that easily wash off.
Remember to bring different size paintbrushes and a cup with water to rinse them. Egg cartons work well to hold different color paints.
Don’t want to paint the rock yourself? One rock artist we recommend is Jackie Sanders:
