What is STEAM?

STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.

In healthy industries and sectors, these inter-related disciplines cross-pollinate. It is therefore important to expose our children to the five subject areas in an integrated fashion.

STEAM educators employ project-based learning to spark collaboration and understanding across these disciplines. STEAM education stimulates both sides of the brain and prevents siloed thinking that can develop when subjects are only taught independently.

One source notes that STEAM “aims to bring out the artist within the engineer, the mathematician inside the musician, and the scientist within the designer.”
